Celebrity engagements and weddings put famous couples in the spotlight, and so do their painful, publicized breakups. A few recent celebrity divorces and broken engagements remind us that our favorite stars are a lot like the rest of us. See how they’re moving on with their lives!
In July 2016, the world heard the news that Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney won’t be tying the knot after all. After announcing their engagement on Valentine’s Day, 2015, the couple decided to call it quits. Lady Gaga’s engagement ring, designed by Taylor and Lorraine Schwartz, was a spectacular one. It featured a massive heart shaped diamond and tiny white diamonds on the band. At the bottom of the band, spelled out in minuscule white diamonds, was the inscription “T (heart) S”.
Whether Lady Gaga will keep her engagement ring and wear it again remains to be seen, since it seems the couple’s love story is far from over. In a statement on Instagram, Gaga said:
“Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break. We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We’re just like everybody else and we really love each other.”
Since then, the Oscar-winning star has been back to work in exciting projects. In early September, she shot a new music video for her upcoming single “Perfect Illusion”, in the desert outside LA. Gaga is also getting ready to star, compose for and perform in the remake of A Star is Born, Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut.
Drew Barrymore divorced Will Kopelman in August 2016. She and husband Will Kopelman were married in June of 2012, and share daughters Olive and Frankie. The couple released a joint statement in April 2016 announcing the end of their marriage:
“Sadly, our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family… Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on. Our children are our universe, and we look forward to living the rest of our lives with them as the first priority.”
There’s no word about what’s happening to Drew’s engagement and wedding rings in the wake of this famous celebrity divorce, but she has been seen wearing a new gold and blue enamel ring that has been nicknamed the “divorce ring.” Engraved on the ring is a phrase in French that translates to “More than Yesterday, Less than Tomorrow.”
When Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale announced their split in August 2015, it reminded the world that celebrity divorces can happen even to couples who’ve been together for what seems like forever. The two made their announcement in an exclusive statement to Access Hollywood:
“While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment. To that end, we respectfully request privacy from the media during this time.”
Gwen hasn’t mentioned what will happen to her engagement ring, but it seems she is bouncing back from what she called “rock bottom” in an interview with CBS’ Sunday Morning.
The singer has been publicly dating Blake Shelton, her “Voice” co-star, since November 2015. They are allegedly discussing wedding plans and even composing a love song to perform together at their special day!
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were married for just 15 months, but theirs is among today’s most famous divorces. Heard made headlines after alleging that Depp had been abusive, and appeared in court with a painful bruise on her face. After receiving a $7 million divorce settlement, Amber donated the entire amount to charity. The funds were divided equally between the American Civil Liberties Union and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, where Heard has been volunteering for 10 years. In a statement, Heard said:
“Over the years, I have seen firsthand how more funding for staffing, better equipment, and better medication can make the difference between life or death for a child.”
There has been no mention of what will become of Amber Heard’s engagement ring following this stunning celebrity divorce. According to People magazine, she stopped wearing it a few weeks before filing for divorce from Johnny Depp.
After the stormy divorce, Amber has found calm away from LA. She crossed the ocean to settle in London, where she’s been spotted spending a girls night out with her celebrity friends, Cara Delevingne and Margot Robbie. Superhero both in real life and fiction, the actress is preparing her next role in the movie Justice League.
