With the holiday season right around the corner and a new year within sight, our auction house has been sparkling like the winter’s first snow. This month, we’ve seen some absolutely stunning pieces come and go, including exquisite sapphires, enviable statement bracelets, and more. In keeping with the cold weather in this month’s forecast, we experienced lots of “ice” in the form of remarkable center stones.

Diamonds and Sapphires Galore

Rich blue sapphires have been treasured for millennia – no surprise, as they have a history of representing royalty while protecting ancient kings and queens from harm. Symbolic of nobility, integrity, sincerity, and passion, sapphires are September’s birthstone. While they’re traditionally given in celebration of a 45th anniversary, sapphires are often showcased in engagement rings, too. We recently sold some items featuring gorgeous sapphires and diamonds, including an impressive oval-cut bridal set, a gorgeous round-cut bridal set, and a stunning oval-cut Riviera necklace with a total of 26 sapphires and 618 diamonds.

Statement Bracelets

Bracelets have been making a statement since about 5,000 BCE and perhaps even earlier. Two exquisite examples passed through our doors in November. This remarkable 18k gold custom bangle adorned with round and marquise diamonds in a beautiful organic setting sold for $4,856. A beautiful Mathey-Tissot watch showcasing over 150 marquise, round, and single-cut diamonds set in 14k yellow gold sold for $1,813.

Stunning Center Stones

A few of this month’s auctions featured rings with large center stones. All fetched more than $10,000. This show-stopping 2.9-carat Emerald Cut bridal set included an engagement ring with 2 baguette accent diamonds, along with a 20-diamond eternity band. At G Color and VS2 clarity, it sold for an impressive $24,427. A classic 2.7-carat marquise cut solitaire sold for $10,709.

Unique Settings

If you’ve seen our recently updated guide to ring settings, then you know that classic prong settings are just the beginning! We’ve seen quite a few Gypsy settings and Bezel settings in recent months. This time, we’d like to show you a fascinating take on the By-Pass setting. With a 1.01 carat emerald cut diamond at its heart, this unique ring is accented by 8 channel-set round diamonds. It sold for $2,468.
