About Verdura
The name Verdura is taken from the original owner of the brand, Duke Fulco di Verdura of Palermo, Italy, in the late 1800s. In his younger years, the Duke was a socialite who befriended many celebrities of the 1920s while galvanting around Europe. He made his way to Paris, where he designed jewelry for Chanel, and ultimately settled in Hollywood in 1934. While in Hollywood, he designed iconic pieces for early film stars, like Greta Garbo and Katherine Hepburn. Many of his designs even made it onto the big screen. In 1939, he made his way to New York City, where he opened his first store of fifth avenue on September 1st of that year, the day WWII broke our in Europe. During the war, Duke Verdura was able to provide American shoppers with chic European jewelry designs while Europe was off-limits to them.
Since then, Verdura has become a major jewelry brand, with many of the older designs still seen today, such as Greta Garbo curb link bracelet and Maltese cross cuffs. Keep your eyes out at the next red carpet event and you are sure to spot a few Verdura pieces.
